Can you believe it’s over half way through September already!? September had always been super busy for my family. Birthdays (including mine), the beginning of fall, school in full swing. Pumpkin spice everything is here with the cooler temps. After this summer, I’m glad it’s here. I mentioned my birthday, and as the title says, more snakes. Those two things will line up this year. On my birthday, I am getting two more snoodles. This time, a special needs IJ/Papuan carpet named Nidhogg, and a hognose named Tynamo, or Ty for short. A little bit about Nidhogg, he’s about 4 moths old. For his first two months, he had a persistent problem with prolapse. He also has a couple kinks in his lower spine. I was talking to my breeder friend who specializes in Australian snake species about how I have the softest spots for the underdogs, and I would be so incredibly honored to take on one of his snakes that had a deformity. We picked Nidhogg for me. Every update on the little guy just hurt my heart. I was telling Riley that he needed a name, so that the universe would know that he was loved and someone was rooting for him. Not that I’m a superstitious person, or into the metaphysical or anything, but it seems to have worked! He hasn’t had a single prolapse to my knowledge since naming him, and he has been eating, pooping, and shedding with no issues! My heart is so incredibly happy! I can’t wait for him to come home, and I can love on this little miracle in person! Of course, he is going to have a proper quarantine where I only check his physical condition and water level for a few weeks. When I took Silvally to the vet for a checkup this week, I told them about Nidhogg and his situation. I will be working closely with the vey and Riley to make sure he has the best possible life. And the longest one, at that! Next, Tynamo. She is a little cutie! She was my first official purchase from Riley, who was doing a little hognose breeding on the side. She is so adorable! She had some burnt orange/red coloring behind her head and down her neck, and some really cute patterning! She is a healthy little hoggie, and I am also over the moon to get her home! Both of their pictures and blurbs will be in out About section as soon as I can get pictures of them!
I am signed up for two shows now! Repticon comes first, on October 10th and 11th. My second show will be a Show Me show in Lincoln. NE on Halloween! I’ll be taking kiddo to this one. We have family out there that I am so excited to see, and I get to do a show out of state! Not bad for my second show! I am hoping to do more shows in the future, including traveling out of state to other shows! Doing shows is becoming more real now. I’ve got a cash box, a tub on wheels, an order for logo shirts and a table cloth, and this pressing need to create as much as I can so I have individual pieces to sell, with the hope to get some commissions for reptile people who can appreciate my craft.
On a final note, my reptile bestie sent me an image of a framed piece with a full shed and some pressed flowers. It was really beautiful, and I figured there was no reason to not make something like that for my shop! So this is my announcement; I will be making framed pieces from full shed starting very soon. I purchased frames and have pressed flowers in a couple color families arriving soon. I hope to put at least one of them together before Repticon so I can post them on my website and have a big ticket item on my table. I have a full, intact shed that Alex recently made for me that I will be using in this first piece. Wish me luck! I’m still working on dice. I learned a trick for sheds that will be used in resin pieces, so hopefully that will be moving forward. I also learned that using low-number grit sandpaper on resin is a really bad idea. That first pour may be a flop, but hey, that’s kind of why I did a simple, shedless set first.
Anywho, I just remembered I haven’t had dinner. Being verbose in writing is not always a good thing.
Until next time,
Di
